Ubuntu developer preview has now been made available for Nexus devices including the Nexus 4. In this article we will show you how you can install Ubuntu OS on your LG Nexus 4. This Ubuntu OS is right now only for developers and enthusiast, it is not recommended for ordinary users.
Remember this tutorial is not like we use to write, This is something different, and if you do not understand these things, please don’t try this. Although if something goes wrong, You can revert to Android by installing the factory images again.
How To Install Ubuntu Touch developer preview on Nexus 4 -
Step 1- Download Ubuntu images through User accounts, Add the Ubuntu Touch PPA by adding the following custom source list entry to your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools And then add this -sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install phablet-tools android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Step 2 - Now you have to unlock Bootloader of your Nexus 4, for details on What is bootloader? Please visit > What is Bootloader. To unlock bootloader of your Nexus 4, you can either use Nexus all in one toolkit > Download All in one Toolkit For Nexus S, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 which will unlock bootloader with one click or you can use an alternative manual method too -
Manual Method -
- Boot your LG Nexus 4 into bootloader mode by holding the Power button + volume up + volume down.
- Connect your device to your computer.
- On your computer, press Ctrl+Alt+T to start terminal. Type sudo fastboot oem unlock and hit enter.
Step 3 – Now we come to flashing ubuntu developer preview , To install ubuntu on Nexus 4, hit the following command -
Step 4- This will install the latest build of Ubuntu, the files are saved in downloads/Phablet-flash. Your phone Will restart on ubuntu.
